Most people think an overjet is a deep bite when technically it refers to the top teeth protruding too far forward of the bottom teeth. From the side profile, this can make your lower jaw look very small in comparison. The cause could be a skeletal imbalance between the upper and lower jaw, flared upper teeth or missing teeth.
